When is the best time of year to get married in Costa Rica? The honest answer: there's no bad time — but each season has its own personality. Here's how to choose the window that fits your vision, your budget, and your guest list.
Dry season (December–April): the classic choice
These are the most popular wedding months — reliably sunny days, especially on the Pacific side, and easy logistics for guests. Because it's peak season, it's also the busiest and priciest window, so book your venue and vendors well ahead (9–12 months out is smart).
Green season (May–November): lush, beautiful, and better value
Don't overlook the green (rainy) season. The countryside is at its most vivid green, mornings and evenings are typically clear, and it usually rains for just a couple of hours midday — often a non-event for a well-planned wedding day. Rates and crowds both drop, so your budget stretches further. Many of our couples marry in the green season on purpose, and the photos are stunning.
The sweet spots
- Late November & early December — the green season is winding down, everything's still lush, and you catch lower rates just before peak.
- May & June — early green season: gorgeous, warm, and great value.
- January–March — driest and sunniest, ideal if guaranteed sun tops your list (book early).
A tip on timing your day
Whatever the season, plan the ceremony for late afternoon. You'll dodge midday heat (and any brief green-season shower), and you'll get that golden, glowing light photographers love — with Bella Vista's mountain-and-ocean backdrop behind you.
